The Villa l'Oleandro, just a few steps away from the famous piazzetta Villa L’Oleandro (Narcissus) is nowadays a 4 storey private villa located on one of the most charming alley of the island. Originally it only had 2 floors and was built in the XIX century for the American painter Charles Caryl Coleman who used it to entertain his many famous guests like D.H Lawrence. Coleman liked his villa so much that he painted it with its numerous staircases and terraces, as the setting for a sensuous portrait of a dark-haired woman dressed in pink chiffon in his “Rooftop in Capri”. In 1940 the last two floors were added. Today the villa is divided into two apartments belonging to the same family with a private elevator. The rental flat is located on the second, third and fourth floor and from every window offers a breathtaking view over the gulf of Naples and the whole island of Capri. The apartment has been charmingly restored just a couple of years ago by the present owner, the Princess Fabrizia Borghese, who decorated it with a selection of antique furniture and glass chandeliers belonging to her family since generations. Every room has a private terrace and on the top floor there is a very large terrace partially shaded by a pergola, ideal for dinner parties, sunbathing or just for a moment of relax at sundown. That offers a 360 degree panorama view of every natural beauty of the island including the Faraglioni.

Recommended Restaurants
Apart from sea life Capri island offers a wide variety of activities: there are some of the most interesting antique roman villas to visit, exceptional natural beauties to explore and possibly the best shopping in the whole south of Italy. The best way to move around is to walk. To catch a bus. Or to jump on one of the local taxis that still resemble the models used in the Fifties to carry around celebrities like Jacqueline Onassis and Grace Kelly.
ANACAPRI
This idyllic town sits majestically above Capri village (and the clouds) on Monte Cappello. Spend 12 minute to ride the chairlift from here to Monte Solaro (Via Caposcuro 10, 081/837-1428) for jaw-dropping views. There's a snack bar and several trailheads up top but little shade, so pack a hat.
Don't miss the magnificent ruins of Villa Jovis (Via Tiberio, 081/837-0381). This is the grandest of Emperor Tiberius' 12 estates, and where he ruled his empire from 27 to 37 A.D. You can tour the former palace or catch the view from the ledge over which the depraved leader reputedly disposed of his victims.
Another popular attraction is Villa San Michele (Piazza Nicola, 081/837-1401 www.sanmichele.org), a collection of buildings and grounds built in 1895 by Swedish doctor and writer Axel Munthe (best known for The Story of San Michele) on the site of a Roman emperor's villa and a medieval church. It's now a museum, but the lush gardens (and views) are the main draw.
The more athletically inclined can trek up Scala Fenicia, (Phoenician Stairs) whose 1,000 steps were once the only way to get from Anacapri to Capri town.
BEACHES
Marina Piccola is the most popular. Bagni di Tiberio beach near Marina Grande is also well liked. Many beach bunnies though prefer to work on their tans at private clubs or lidos. One of the most famous is La Fontelina (Localitą Faraglioni, 081-837-0845), located at the foot of the Faraglioni rocks and accessible by rocky path, ferry from Marina Piccola or private boat. We suggest La canzone del Mare (tel. 081 8370104), which also has a great swimming pool, for a particularly exclusive time and fantastic food.
The Lido del Faro (Localitą Punta Carena, 81/837-1798, www.lidofaro.com), on the Anacapri side of the island, is another popular spot. Reach it by bus from Anacapri.

CAPRI VILLAGE
All roads lead to the famous Piazzetta. No matter what lane you're on, you'll eventually end up at this picturesque square. The best place to see the Faraglioni, Capri's famous rocks, is from the Belvedere Tragara (just outside the Punta Tragara hotel). The walk between there and the Piazzetta is Capri's most classic passeggiata.
Also worth a visit: Certosa di San Giacomo, a semi-abandoned medieval monastery set behind a lemon grove; the Gardens of Augustus, a charming public park laid out on a series of terraces high above the sea; and Marina Piccola, a tiny seaside resort with rows of colorful bathing huts.
THE BLUE GROTTO
No trip to Capri is complete without a visit to the island's most famous natural attraction, created by refracted sunlight that penetrates a large opening beneath the water. In summer motorboats frequently leave Marina Grande for this blue cave. Once there, you can either swim in (depending on tides, current and boats in the water), or hire one of the many rowboat operators . In some parts, you'll have to lie down to get through the narrow openings. Operators don't make the trip in bad weather.
BOAT CHARTER
One of the bestway to enjoy Capri sea is to cahrte a gozzo, the local wooden boats. You can either rent it for a few hours, the day or your whole vacation.

How to get there

[Google Earth Placemark*]
*you can download Google Earth at http://earth.google.com.
Airport - Capodichino (081/789-6111) in Naples is the nearest airport. Buses and taxis transport arriving visitors to the ferry docks for transfer to Capri.
By boat - Ferries and hydrofoils depart from Naples and Sorrento. Hydrofoils are faster, more frequent, and more than twice the price. In summer, book Sunday departures to the mainland well in advance.
From Naples, Molo Beverello or Meregellina dock offers the most frequent crossings. Hydrofoil takes 45 minutes. Contact Navigazione Libera del Golfo (081/552-0763; www.navlib.it) or SNAV (081/428-5555, www.snav.it).
From Sorrento, the trip is shorter. Hydrofoils operated by Linee Marittime Partenopee (081/878-1430 or 081/807-1812) and Alilauro (081/807-3024), depart hourly from Marina Piccola and take only 20 minutes. LMV and Caremar ferries leave from the dock near Piazza Tasso.
